Welcome to MIDAN's Website!

Assalamu Alaikum (May Peace be With You).

Welcome to the new and improved website of the Muslims in Dietetics and Nutrition (MIDAN) member interest group (MIG) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics!  Please use the Contact Us form to let us know what you think so far and check back again soon for more updates.  In the meantime, please take note of these important MIDAN announcements:

  • On April 24th from 1-2:30 PM Eastern Time, MIDAN will be hosting a CPE webinar, "Exploring Halal Healthy Food Service Operations," with it's long-time partner in halal education and Nakhl (Palm Date) level sponsor, the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA).   Featuring halal experts Asma Ahad, Director of Halal Market Development at IFANCA, and Nadeem Siddiqui, Resident District Manager at Washington University, the event is guaranteed to be jam-packed with practical information for anyone interested in learning about the what, who, where, how, when, and why of halal food service.  This 1.5 CPEU event is free for MIDAN members and only $10 for non-members.  Space is limited.  Go to www.eatright.org/dpgevents to reserve your spot today.  For more information about IFANCA, visit www.ifanca.org.
  • We are honored to have been selected for the second consecutive year in partnership with a fellow MIG to present an educational session at the annual Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE).  In 2013, our joint partnership with the Jewish Member Interest Group (JMIG) for "Mythbusters: The Facts All RDs and DTRs Need to Know About Halal and Kosher Dietary Markets" received wide praise for its novelty and value to the food and nutrition profession.  This year, we are proud to partner with another sister MIG, the National Organization of Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition (NOBIDAN), to explore the "Vitamin D-lemma" as it applies to diverse populations, including in black and Muslim communities, among others.  Mark your calendars now for this and other FNCE opportunities.  See the Upcoming Events page for details.
